Edenton Steamers News Release
THOMASVILLE, NC - The Edenton Steamers collected their second consecutive road victory with a 9-1 win over the High Point-Thomasville HiToms on Tuesday night. Edenton (2-1, 14-17) scored seven runs on one hit while drawing 11 walks in the final four innings. High Point-Thomasville (1-1, 19-10) left 10 runners aboard during the contest.
Perry DellaValle grabbed the win for the Clams. DellaValle (3-1) hurled five innings, allowing one run on six hits and five walks with two strikeouts.
Steven Bower shouldered the loss for the HiToms. Bower (2-2) gave up seven runs on just three hits while walking three and fanning five in six innings of work.
The Steamers and HiToms traded runs in the first inning, and it was three innings before the tie was broken. In the top of the fourth, Tony Rosselli knocked his sixth homerun of the summer to give Edenton a 2-1 advantage.
Two innings later, the Teal and Black broke open a huge lead with a five-run sixth. Cunningham drew a walk to start the frame, advancing all the way to third on a botched pickoff attempt, and Trey Hair to a pitch to the back. After Hair stole second, a wild pitch moved him to third, scoring Cunningham. In the following at bat, Rosselli plated Hair with a sacrifice fly to center. Thatcher Coleman and Bobby Schuman each drew walks to put two on for Stefan Van Horn, and the Steamers' catcher launched a ball over the fence in center to give Edenton a 7-1 lead.
The Clams loaded he bases in both the seventh and eighth innings, taking advantage by plating two more runs to finish the game with a 9-1 lead.
The Edenton Steamers return to Historic Hicks Field to host the Gastonia Grizzlies at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night. For more information fans can call (252) 482-4080 or visit edentonsteamers.com.
