Reading Royals News Release
Cincinnati, OH - The Reading Royals of the ECHL fell in Game Six of the North Division Finals best of seven series against the Cincinnati Cyclones 4-2 at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. The series is tied at three games apiece and is headed back to U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio for Game Seven on Monday (May 5 @ 7:30 pm). Reading battled back from a 3-0 deficit with two late game goals to draw within one with just 1:32 remaining. But Cincinnati bagged an empty netter to douse the comeback effort. Danny Taylor (7-5; 27/30; 1 eng) took the loss; while Cedrick Desjardins (3-2; 27/29) picked up the win for Cincinnati.
After a scoreless first, Cincinnati struck first 16:03 into the second period, when David Desharnais carried into the offensive end and slid a low snap shot from the right circle that snuck through for his second goal of the playoff season. Fifty-nine seconds later, the Cyclones went up 2-0 when Mathieu Aubin worked a give-and-go off the end wall with Olivier Latendresse. Aubin slipped the puck from the top of the crease through a maze of players for his fifth of the playoff season. Cincinnati opened up a 3-0 lead at the 14:38 mark of the third when Scott Reynolds carried deep on the left side, out-waited Taylor, and, as Taylor went to the ice, fired a sharp angle shot that somehow caught the upper corner of the far side of the net for his second of the playoff season.
Reading finally broke through with just 2:13 remaining in regulation while playing with the man advantage and the goaltender pulled. Patrik Hersley stepped low into the left circle and ripped a snap shot that somehow beat Desjardins high to the glove side. Forty-one seconds later, the Royals drew within one-again with the goaltender pulled-when Danny Roussin fired a shot from the right half-wall. Desjardins made the stop, but as the rebound fluttered off his body, Chris Blight crashed and batted the puck out of mid-air and into the goal for his fourth of the playoff season. Reading pressed hard in the waning moments, but Aubin banked a clearing effort from his own end that was perfectly placed into the Royals' empty net to ice the game with just 20 seconds left.
The Royals face the Cyclones in Game Seven of the North Division Finals on Monday, May 5 (7:30 pm) at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. The game night broadcast on Monday will begin at 7:00 pm with the pre-game warm-up show on True Oldies WRAW 1340 am as well as on the internet through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com. Streaming video is available on a pay per view basis through the B2 Networks.
