Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Salmon Kings and Utah Grizzlies met in Game 4 of their Best-of-Seven National Conference Semi-Final tonight at the E-Center in West Valley City, Utah. The Grizzlies took a 2-1 series lead with a 7-5 come-from-behind victory on Thursday night.
The Salmon Kings came out with a good jump in the first period, but it was the Grizzlies that struck first when Ryan Kinasewich picked up a loose puck in the slot and let a backhander go as he took a body check. The puck slipped past Salmon Kings netminder's Billy Thompson's left toe and hit the post ricocheting into the net for a 1-0 Grizzlies lead. That would be the score after one period.
The Salmon Kings began to hit their stride in the second period and had many great scoring chances, but the story of the second stanza was Utah goaltender Mike Mole. The Moncton, NB native made a handful of dazzling saves to keep Victoria at bay. The Grizzlies continued to lead 1-0 after 40 minutes.
Utah played an effective third period limiting the Kings' chances, and when an opportunity presented itself Mole shut the door. Olivier Labelle added an empty net goal for Utah to close out the scoring. Grizzlies 2 Salmon Kings 0.
Victoria went 0/3=0% on the power play and Utah went 0/2=0% with the man advantage. The Grizzlies out shot the Salmon Kings by a 29-24 count. Utah leads the series 3-1.
The Salmon Kings and the Grizzlies meet in Game 5 on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. PDT from the E-Center in West Valley City, Utah.
