Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

The Idaho Falls Chukars couldn't rebound from a five-run sixth inning by the Ogden Raptors Monday night at Melaleuca Field. The 7-5 loss for the Chukars moves them out of first place in the second half standings for the first time.

After three shutout innings, Elian Herrera led off the fourth inning with a home run for the Raptors. In the bottom of the fourth, J.D. Alfaro led off with a home run for the Chukars to tie the game at 1-1. The Raptors added a run in the fifth inning, before pouring on the five in the sixth. Going to the bottom of the sixth the Chukars were down 7-1.

Trailing by six, the Chukars didn't lay down. Back-to-back doubles in the sixth by J.D. Alfaro and Antonio Jimenez pulled the Chukars within five. Carlo Testa started the seventh with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. After an out, Patrick Norris hit a single to score Testa. Alfaro reached on a walk to put two aboard. Shawn Griffin brought Norris home with a single to left field. In the eighth Testa hit his third home run of the season and brought Idaho Falls two runs away from Ogden. The Chukars had two baserunners in the ninth inning, but couldn't get anyone across.

Bryan Casey lost his second start in his last three outings and is now 2-3 this season. Casey allowed only two runs in four and a third innings. The Raptors really broke the game open against Jesse Carver, who gave up four runs in one inning. All seven runs against the Chukars' staff were earned Monday. The pitchers were backed up by a defense that turned three double plays and committed no errors.

Four Chukars finished with multiple hits, including Alfaro, who went 3-for-4. All three of Alfaro's hits were extra-base hits, as he hit two doubles and his team-leading fifth home run of the season. Both of Testa's hits were extra-base hits, as he hit a double and a home run.

The Chukars and Raptors finish the series at Melaleuca Field Tuesday at 7:15.
