Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

The Idaho Falls Chukars won for the third straight time at Melaleuca Field Monday night. The Chukars piled on the runs early thanks to four first inning errors by the Osprey. The final score at Melaleuca Field was 12-5.

The Chukars took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Osprey committed the first error. After all four errors in the first inning - and a total of six hits - the Chukars had scored six more runs. The Osprey then rallied to score five runs in the team's next three trips to the plate. The Chukars responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, while the bullpen shutdown Missoula.

Chukars' reliever Colby Beach had the longest stint on the mound for Idaho Falls, as he tossed four innings. Beach yielded no walks and struck out six, while allowing only three hits and one earned run. After starting 0-2 this season, Beach has now gotten a win in his last two outings. Gary Novakowski finished the game for the Chukars by pitching two shutout innings.

Offensively the Chukars dominated the Osprey. Nick Francis went five for five and raised his batting average this season to .336. Two other players had three hits, including Patrick Norris. Both Norris and Francis hit a pair of doubles in the win. Shawn Griffin finished 3-4 with the only Chukars' home run of the night. Griffin and Francis, the three and four hitters in the Chukars batting order, combined to go eight for nine. Eight of the nine batters in the line-up recorded at least one RBI, in spite of the six total errors the Osprey made.

The Chukars have won the first three games of the current four game series against the Osprey. Idaho Falls goes for the sweep Tuesday at Melaleuca Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15.
