The Owlz defense was much improved on Tuesday night, but Idaho Falls put together a stellar pitching performance to give the Chukars an 11-4 win over the Owlz at Melaleuca Field.
After scoring 14 runs on 14 hits in the first game of the series, the Owlz bats were quiet, scoring just one run until the 9th inning when Quinten Davis hit a 2-run triple. Kyle Johnson immediately brought Davis home on a RBI groundout.
Kyle Smith made his professional debut a memorable one for the Chukars, giving up just one run in five innings of work. He struck out 11 Owlz batters, while giving up three hits.
Yancarlos Santiago started for the Owlz and gave up six runs in 3.2 innings. Orlando Ramirez relieved him, but struggled, surrendering two runs in 1.1 innings. Owlz pitching has now given up 27 runs on 32 hits in the first two games of the series. The Owlz have been solid at the plate as well, scoring 18 runs.
Julio Aparicio did the damage tonight, going 4-for-5 with one run and 2 RBIs. Ethan Chapman, Nic Cuckovich, Adalberto Mondesi and Jack Lopez each had 2 RBIs.
Tom Kotchman will look for better results when Patrick Lowery takes the hill on Wednesday night. The Owlz will look to avoid being swept at 7:15 p.m. at Melaleuca Field.
