Chuck-a-Puck Grand Prize given to charity
March 18, 2007 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Seattle Thunderbirds News Release
Seattle, March 18, 2007 - John Starbuck won the $10,000 Chuck-a-Puck Grand Prize at the Seattle Thunderbirds game against the Tri- City Americans Sunday night.
Upon winning Starbuck immediately signed the $10,000 prize over to the charity MEOW.
MEOW's goal is to help create a "no-kill nation," where people are responsible for their pets, where there are no helpless creatures abandoned in boxes or left to fend for themselves in parking lots, where there is no longer a need for any healthy companion animal to be euthanized. At every home game this season the T-Birds sell Chuck-a-Pucks for a second intermission contest. Contestants attempt to throw the chuck-a-pucks through the sunroof of a car stationed at center ice.
The first puck through the sunroof at every game wins the thrower of the chuck-a-puck a key. That key is then used at the last game of the season to try and open the trunk of a car that contains a check for $10,000.
