Christopoulos, Lampasso Earn USHL Awards

Urbandale (IA) The Des Moines Buccaneers are proud to announce that rookie goaltender Billy Christopoulos and rookie forward Christian Lampasso have been named the United States Hockey League players of the week by the league office on Monday afternoon. They become the sixth and seventh Bucs' players to earn USHL honors this season.

Thanks to Christopoulos and Lampasso, the Buccaneers earned their first six point weekend since January 2011 with wins at Sioux Falls and at home to Sioux City and Cedar Rapids. Des Moines has moved into a tie for fourth place and is only two points from second in the Western Conference.

Christopoulos earns his second goaltender of the week award following wins at Sioux Falls on November 30th and at home against Sioux City on December 1st. In the two games, he combined to stopped 62 of 65 shots. On Friday, he made 37 saves to help the Bucs' win in Sioux Falls for the first time since October 2009 and in the process hand the Stampede only their third home loss in 14 outings this season. The Bucs won the game 5-1. Then on Saturday, he had 25 saves in a 5-2 home victory over Sioux City.

The native of Raleigh, NC is in his first season of junior hockey. He was also named the USHL goaltender of the week on October 15th. On the season, Christopoulos is 7-6 with a 3.11 goals against average and .919 save percentage.

Lampasso earns his first USHL honors as he earns forward of the week accolades following a five point weekend. The native of Western New York scored at least one goal in each of the games, finishing with four goals and added an assist. Not only did Lampasso score, but he made them matter the most with the game winning strike in Saturday's win over Sioux City and Sunday's triumph over Cedar Rapids.

The junior hockey rookie now has eight goals in only 13 games played. He has scored at least once in seven of his last eight games.

The Buccaneers are on the road this upcoming weekend with a game at Green Bay on Friday and then in Chicago on Saturday. Des Moines' returns home December 14 and 15 versus Youngstown.

The Des Moines Buccaneers are in their 33rd consecutive season in the United States Hockey League.
