New Jersey Jackals News Release
LITTLE FALLS, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals today announced the signing of infielder Chris Rowan to a contract for the 2003 season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Rowan, who can play shortstop or third base, is entering his seventh season in professional baseball, though he is only 24 years old. Originally selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 14th round of the 1997 draft, Rowan played in 452 games over the past six years in the Brewers' organization.
Last season, while playing at single-A High Desert, Rowan posted career-high numbers in three categories: batting average (.270), home runs (16) and stolen bases (16). He also drove in 52 runs and had 16 doubles on the season.
In 1999 the 6'1", 200 pound Rowan hit 11 home runs and drove in a career-best 55 runs while stroking a career-high 25 doubles while playing at single-A Stockton.
"He's a guy with a lot of pop in his bat who can play several different positions for us," said Jackals manager Joe Calfapietra. "I really like the flexibility he gives me as I continue to put together our team for the upcoming season."
The Jackals will begin the 2003 campaign on May 22nd with a home game at Yogi Berra Stadium against the Berkshire Black Bears. For individual or group ticket information, log on to www.jackals.com or call (973) 746-7434.
