Chris Jones to Coach Stampeders Defence

Calgary Stampeders head coach/general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce today that Chris Jones will be the team's new defensive co-ordinator.
Jones entered the Canadian Football League in 2002 as the Montreal Alouettes defensive line coach. He was promoted to defensive co-ordinator the following season and his units consistently have ranked among the CFL's best over the past five years.
"Chris has great passion and commitment to his job," said Hufnagel. "He's been successful ever since he was named defensive co-ordinator in 2003. His defences always play a solid, aggressive style and that's a perfect fit for the Calgary Stampeders."
"It's a huge honour to join the Stampeders," said Jones. "It's a great opportunity for me to bring what I do out west to a team that's absolutely focused on winning the Grey Cup. I look forward to those expectations and standards."
Jones began coaching at North Jackson High School in Stevenson, Alabama in 1992, where his team compiled a 45-7 record over a four-year span and, in 1993, won the Alabama state championship.
His college coaching career began in 1995 at Tennessee Tech University as a graduate assistant, where he obtained his Masters degree and coached the defensive line. He went to the University of Alabama as a graduate assistant in 1997, working towards a doctorate degree and coaching the linebackers. In 1998, he joined the University of Tennessee-Martin as defensive line coach.
From 1999 to 2001, Jones coached the defensive line and was recruiting co-ordinator at Tennessee Tech University. His defensive line led the Ohio Valley Conference in sacks and tackles for losses every year. He also coached two first-team All-Americans. In 1999, Tennessee Tech's defence was ranked third in the nation in total defence. In 2000, Tennessee Tech was 8-3 and ranked 21st in the nation. In 2001, the team finished 7-3 and was 24th in the nation.
Chris and his wife Sarah have a son, Drew, and two daughters, Jackson and Austin.
