Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS - The Texas Rangers have announced that Chris Gimenez will begin a Major League rehabilitation assignment with the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Rangers, tonight, when the RoughRiders open up an eight homestand against the San Antonio Missions at 7:05 p.m. at Dr. Pepper Ballpark. Gimenez is in the lineup, hitting second and catching for the RoughRiders.
Gimenez, 33, has been sidelined for nearly the last month with an infection in his left ankle. The right-handed hitting catcher played in an extended Spring Training game over the weekend, seeing game action for the first time since March 26.
The seven-year Major League veteran is in his third season overall with Texas, and was most recently signed as a free agent on November 11, 2014. He is a lifetime .218 hitter with 11 home runs and 55 RBI in 221 Major League contests.
