Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
Fort Worth-Hockey fans in Fort Worth can mark their calendars. The complete 2005-2006 schedule for the Fort Worth Brahmas was officially released by the Central Hockey League office this afternoon. The Brahmas will begin their fifth season in the CHL on Friday, October 21 with a 7:35 p.m. road game at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma against their Red River rivals, the Oklahoma City Blazers. The following night, Saturday, October 22, Fort Worth will return home to the Fort Worth Convention Center for their 2005-2006 home opener against the Tulsa Oilers at 7:30 p.m.
This season, the Brahmas will play a 64 game schedule (an increase of four additional games from the 2004-2005 season). The club's schedule will be split evenly, with 32 games being played on home ice, and 32 games being played on the road. Twenty-four of the Brahmas' 32 home games this season will be played at their primary arena, the Fort Worth Convention Center. The Brahmas will play eight home games this season at their alternate home venue, the historic Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum. Fort Worth will call the "Will" home for five home games in February (Feb. 10,11,24,25,28) and three home games in March (3,4,5).
The majority of the Brahmas' Monday through Saturday home games will begin at 7:30 p.m. The team's two Sunday home games, on December 4 versus Amarillo and on March 5 versus Austin, are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. start times. One of the varying start times for a Brahmas home game will be on Tuesday, December 13, when the Brahmas will take on the Youngstown Steelhounds (the CHL's only expansion franchise this season). That game is tentatively scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. and is expected to be the Brahmas third annual "Cool School" game. Also, the Brahmas' President's Day game on Monday, February 20 versus Youngstown will begin at the early hour of 6:00 p.m.
As usual, a significant portion of the Brahmas games this season will be played against their divisional opponents. Fort Worth will play their three Northeast Division foes-Bossier-Shreveport, Youngstown, and Memphis-a total of 22 times. Bossier-Shreveport is again the most frequent opponent on Fort Worth's schedule, as the Brahmas will battle the 'Bugs nine times this season (4H/5A). The Brahmas will face Youngstown 8 times (5H/3A) and Memphis 5 times (2H/3A).
The Brahmas will have eight games this year against their chief I-35 rival, the Austin Ice Bats. Austin will come to Cowtown for four games this season, while the Brahmas will visit the Bats in Austin on four occasions as well. The first time that the Brahmas and Bats play this season will be on Friday, November 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Travis County Exposition and Heritage Center in Austin.
For the first time in four seasons, the Brahmas will play every team in the CHL. All fourteen of the other CHL teams will make a trip to Fort Worth this year, while the Brahmas will visit every CHL city this season with the exception of Amarillo.
Fort Worth will face off against the defending CHL champion Colorado Eagles five times (3H/2A) this season, with their first crack against the CHL's best coming on Tuesday, November 22 at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
The Brahmas' home dates will once again be concentrated on the weekend. Of the scheduled 32 home games, 20 of them will be either on a Friday (8), Saturday (10), or Sunday (2). Fort Worth will play eight home games on Tuesdays, three on Wednesdays, and a single Monday home game (the President's Day contest against Youngstown). The Brahmas will not have a Thursday home game during their 2005-2006 season.
The Brahmas will have two six game homestands this year, with the first running from November 26-December 7, and the second stretching from February 24-March 5. On two separate occasions, the Brahmas will play eight consecutive games away from home, on January 10-February 3 and then again on March 8-March 25. The extended road trip in March will include the Brahmas first ever road trip to Youngstown, Ohio, as the Brahmas will close their 2005-2006 regular season with a trio of games in the Steelhounds brand new Youngstown Convocation Center.
