CHL Releases 2005-2006 Schedule

The 2005-2006 Central Hockey League regular season schedule has today been finalized, with each of the CHL's 15 clubs playing 64 games. The regular season begins with seven contests on Friday, October 21st, and concludes with six games on Sunday, March 26th. The CHL's Opening night is highlighted by rematch of last season's Ray Miron President's Cup Finals, with the Laredo Bucks visiting the defending champion Colorado Eagles in one of three meetings (including November 12th and January 20th in Laredo) between last season's finalists. Six other home opening contests also take place October 21st, including Corpus Christi at Austin, Memphis at Bossier-Shreveport, Fort Worth at Oklahoma City, Lubbock at Rio Grande Valley, Youngstown at Tulsa and Odessa at Wichita.

On Saturday October 22nd, three clubs make their home debut, with Amarillo hosting Laredo, Corpus Christi welcoming Austin, and Fort Worth entertaining Tulsa. Memphis (vs. Youngstown) and Odessa (against Lubbock) open their home schedules on Friday, October 28th with Laredo (against Corpus Christi) and Lubbock (vs. Amarillo) beginning their home slates on Saturday, October 29th. The expansion Youngstown SteelHounds are the last club to play on home ice, opening up the state-of-the art Youngstown Convocation Center with a visit from Oklahoma City on Friday, November 4th.

The 2005-2006 CHL schedule features numerous contests between natural and geographic rivals, with the bulk of contests (76%) taking place on weekends. 33.3% of the schedule takes place on Fridays, 31.9% occurs on Saturdays and 10.8% of the schedule is played on Sundays. The Central Hockey League opens its 14th season of play October 21st looking to lead all North American "AA" leagues in average attendance for a fifth consecutive season. In 13 previous seasons of play, the CHL has welcomed 32,381,099 fans through 7,542 contests, averaging over 4,293 per contest. In the 2004-2005 season, the CHL averaged 4,487 per game.
