Corpus Christi IceRays News Release

The Corpus Christi Rayz eighth professional hockey season will begin on the road against their Southeast Division rivals, the Austin Ice Bats on Friday, October 21, 2005 at 7:30pm, the Rayz and the Central Hockey League announced Thursday. The announcement came as part of the 2005-2006 CHL regular season schedule. The 64-game schedule has the Rayz playing 32 games in Corpus Christi and 32 games on the road. During the season, the Rayz will play all 14 CHL opponents and travel throughout five states and 12 cities before concluding the season on Sunday, March 26, 2006 when they visit their archrivals and two-time defending CHL Southern Conference Champions, the Laredo Bucks.

The Rayz will open and close the 2005-2006 year with home and home sets against division rivals. After opening on the road in Austin, the Rayz will return home on Saturday, October 22nd at 7:35pm for their first home game of the year at the American Bank Center. In the final weekend of the season, the Rayz will play their home finale on Saturday March 25, 2006 at 7:35pm when they host the Laredo Bucks. The Rayz will then travel to Laredo the following day to close out the regular season. The Rayz play the Bucks a total of 13 times (six home - seven away), more than any other team in the league.

Over the course of the season, the Rayz will play 47 of their 64 games against the Southern Conference and 34 divisional games against the Ice Bats, Bucks and Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. As the Rayz season winds down, games will be critical for playoff contention as 14 of the final 18 Rayz games come against division opponents. 12 different teams will visit Corpus Christi this season with the Oklahoma City Blazers and Tulsa Oilers the two exceptions. The Rayz will travel, at least once, to play 12 teams, excluding the Colorado Eagles and Wichita Thunder. The Rayz lone game against the defending President's Cup Champion Eagles will be Saturday, January 21, 2006 at 7:35pm at the American Bank Center.

Key dates in the upcoming season for the Rayz include a New Year's Eve home game against the Odessa Jackalopes which will have a special start time of 8:05pm. The first time the Bucks come to Corpus Christi will be January 8th. In just their fourth game of the season, on Sunday, October 30th at 5:05pm, the Rayz will introduce fans to the newest member of the CHL when the expansion Youngstown (OH) Steelhounds make their only visit of the year to the Sparkling City. The Rayz will travel to Youngstown for back to back games on November 25th and 26th, wrapping up the season series. The Rayz longest road trip will be a four-game stretch from February 11-17 when the Rayz will visit Fort Worth and Laredo once and Rio Grande Valley twice. The following week Corpus Christi returns home where they will play a season-high, four-game home stand from February 25 - March 4. Despite starting on the road, four of the first six Rayz games will be at home. Corpus Christi finishes the season with four of their final five contests on the road.

The Rayz play at least one game on each day of the week this season, with the majority of games scheduled for the weekends to accommodate fans. Of the Rayz 32 home games, they will play 12 Saturday night games, seven on Friday nights, six each on Thursday and Sunday, and one Tuesday morning game on November 15th with a special start time of 11:05am. That game will serve as the second annual "Cool School Game" when the Rayz will host Rio Grande Valley and welcome local area elementary school students to the game.

For the second straight year, the Rayz will play all home games at the American Bank Center in downtown Corpus Christi. Fans should note a change in game times from last season. Most Rayz home games Monday - Saturday will begin at 7:35pm this year, while Sunday afternoon start times will remain at 5:05pm. The two exceptions to this will be the "Cool School Game" at 11:05am and New Year's Eve game which begins at 8:05pm. Individual tickets to Rayz games will go on sale October 1st. Tickets will be available at the American Bank Center Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations.

The Corpus Christi Rayz will begin their eighth consecutive season in the Coastal Bend on Friday, October 21st in Austin. The Rayz home opener will be Saturday, October 22nd at 7:35pm vs. division rivals, the Austin Ice Bats. Last season Corpus Christi broke a franchise attendance record, welcoming more than 123,000 fans in their first season at the American Bank Center. Season tickets & sponsorship packages are currently available. Deposits start as low as $50 per seat. For more information, please contact the Rayz at (361)814-PUCK.
