CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008) - Chivas USA forward Maykel Galindo successfully underwent surgery today for a bilateral sports hernia which has kept him sidelined for much of the season. The procedure was performed by Dr. William C. Meyers at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Galindo, who has one goal and two assists in 10 games this season (five starts), could be out up to three months.

The surgery is Galindo's third in 2008, following sports hernia surgeries in Milwaukee on Jan. 9 and June 11. A native of Villa Clara, Cuba, Galindo enjoyed a breakout first season in Major League Soccer in 2007, scoring 12 goals and adding five assists in 28 regular season games for Chivas USA, finishing the season as the club's leading scorer. In 2008, the forward has played ten games for Chivas USA (starting five), scoring one goal and adding two assists in 549 minutes.

This Saturday, Chivas USA opens the playoffs at fellow 2005 expansion side Real Salt Lake, in the first match of the two-game Western Conference Semifinal. The second leg takes place Saturday, Nov. 8, at The Home Depot Center. Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-877-CHIVAS-1 or visiting cdchivasusa.com.
