Chivas USA's Bornstein and Maldonado to Join National Teams for Friendlies Next Week

CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, August 4, 2010) - Chivas USA defender Jonathan Bornstein and forward Giancarlo Maldonado have been called to join their national teams for upcoming international friendlies to be held next week. Chivas USA captain Jonathan Bornstein will be with the United States for a match against Brazil at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. on August 10, while forward Giancarlo Maldonado will join Venezuela for its August 11 match at Panama. The players will travel to join their teams after Chivas USA's match against Toronto FC this weekend and will return to Los Angeles on August 12, before the Red-and-White's match against the Seattle Sounders on Saturday, August 14.

Bornstein has made 34 appearances with the United States National Team since his debut in 2007, most recently helping the U.S. at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, where the Los Alamitos played in matches against Algeria and Ghana. For Chivas USA, the defender has made 10 appearances in MLS play in 2010, and in his career, has played 112 games (110 starts) with nine goals and nine assists.

Maldonado signed with Chivas USA on July 7 and became eligible to play when the international transfer window opened on July 15, and has started each of the Red-and-White's five matches since that date in SuperLiga and MLS play, scoring one goal and adding an assist. The 28-year-old striker has made 48 appearances for Venezuela, including matches in World Cup Qualifying and in the Copa América, scoring 18 goals.

Chivas USA travels to face Toronto FC this Saturday, August 7, in a match that will be broadcast live on Prime Ticket, TeleFutura, and W Radio 690 AM at 1:00 p.m. PT. The Red-and-White will then return to Los Angeles ahead of a crucial Western Conference matchup against the Seattle Sounders on Saturday, August 14, at 8:00 p.m. PT.
