CHIVAS USA UNDER-18 TEAM TO PLAY EXHIBITION IN MODESTO: This coming Sunday, Aug. 10, the a Chivas USA Youth Team made up of players from last year's Under-18 Development Academy team will square off against the Modesto Ajax Elite team. The match will take place at Johansen High School in Modesto, and starts at 6:00 p.m. The Chivas USA team last played on July 27 against an all-star team from the Central Valley, earning a 2-1 win in Santa Maria in front of more than 2000 fans.

CHIVAS USA MIDFIELDER GERSON MAYEN CALLED IN TO U.S. U-20 CAMP: Chivas USA midfielder Gerson Mayen has received good news in the form of a call-up to the United States Under-20 National Team for a five-day camp in Florida. The camp runs from Aug. 10-14 in Sunrise, Fla., and also features two friendly matches against Guatemala. Information on the training camp and the rest of the roster can be found on the U.S. Soccer website. "I'm very happy to be picked," said Mayen after practice on Wednesday. "I hope they keep calling me up. They hadn't called me for a little while, so I have to keep working and giving my best." Mayen had previously been with the U-20's in April for the Campos Verdes International Tournament in Portugal, where he played one match, his first with the U-20's.

LAST CHANCE FOR CHIVAS USA SOCCER CAMPS AND TRYOUTS: Chivas USA's Soccer Camps, which also double as tryouts for the Chivas USA Youth Teams, are down to the final session, which will take place on Aug. 29-30 at the Bell Gardens Sports Center in Bell Gardens, Calif. This camp gives players a chance to receive professional instruction from Chivas USA coaches, and could potentially lead to an invitation to join the Chivas USA U-18 or U-16 Teams, which participate in the United States Soccer Development Academy, or the highly competitive U-15 Team. Invited players from earlier camps this summer have already started training with the Youth Teams as they try to earn spots with the club.

CHIVAS USA YOUTH TEAMS WRAP UP 2007-08 SEASON WITH AWARDS: The Chivas USA Youth Teams held a banquet, award ceremony, and mini-tournament this past weekend in Bell Gardens. The 6v6 tournament was enjoyed by all the players and coaches, and during the buffet dinner, some award winners were announced. The most improved player for the U-16 Team was Carlo Chueca, while Polo Morales earned the honor for the U-18 Team. Morales was also the top scorer on his team, notching a total of 21 goals in 30 Development Academy matches. At this point, both the U-16 and U-18 Teams are in the process of forming rosters for the upcoming 2008-09 season.

‘KICK-IT' THIS SATURDAY, AUGUST 9 IN LOS ANGELES: ‘Kick-it at the Park L.A. with Chivas USA' continues this Saturday, Aug. 9 at Gilbert Lindsay Recreation Center at 429 E. 42nd Place in Los Angeles. A series of four, 90-minute clinics kicks off at 9:00 a.m., followed by clinics at 10:45 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. Run in conjunction with the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, ‘Kick-it' is a series of clinics that emphasize physical fitness, sports, and education for as many as 400 children at each of 40 locations throughout the year. A five-dollar fee gets participants 90 minutes of instruction, a voucher for a free ticket to a Chivas USA game, a t-shirt, soccer ball, and Certificate of Completion. Most recently, Chivas USA held a clinic at the Normandale Recreation Center at 22400 S. Halldale Ave. in Torrance on July 26. ABOUT THE U.S. SOCCER DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY: The U.S Soccer Development Academy is a nationwide youth development initiative, organized by the U.S. Soccer Federation, featuring 63 of the top youth teams in the country competing in a league system at both the U-18 and U-16 levels. The first part of the season ran from October to November, and after a winter break the league has resumed play and will continue through the end of June. The 63 youth programs, including one U.S. Youth National Team in each age group, are divided into eight regions, each of which will send a single qualifier to the national finals to be held at The Home Depot Center after the regular season concludes in late June.
