MLS Disciplinary Committee Suspends Amado Guevara

Published on August 7, 2008 under Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK (Thursday, August 7, 2008) - The Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee today suspended Toronto FC midfielder Amado Guevara one game and fined him $250 for conduct that constituted a red card offense of an egregious nature in Toronto FC's 2-0 loss to FC Dallas on Aug. 3.

The fine and one-game suspension are in addition to the automatic one-game suspension and $250 fine for the red card Guevara received in the game. Guevara deliberately struck FC Dallas midfielder Pablo Ricchetti in the face in the 78th minute of the game last Sunday. Guevara will serve the two-game suspension in Toronto FC's matches on Aug 9, versus Colorado Rapids and Aug. 17, versus the New York Red Bulls.

As one of the League's official Charities of Choice, the US Soccer Foundation is the recipient of all player fines at the end of each season. Those fines are added to the Foundation's Annual Grants Pool from which the Board of Directors awards grants to soccer clubs and organizations that serve economically disadvantaged children in urban areas.
