USA U-16 and U-18 Teams each had busy weekends at the second annual Development Academy Winter Showcase, which took place from Dec. 5-8 at the Lancaster National Soccer Center in Lancaster, Calif. The U-16's earned a pair of wins, beating the Chicago Fire 3-2 on Friday and Seacoast United 8-0 on Sunday, before falling 1-0 to the Colorado Rapids on Monday. The Chivas USA U-18's went undefeated on the trip, earning a 2-2 draw with the Chicago Fire on Friday in a match that was broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel, beating Seacoast 2-1 on Sunday, and tying Colorado 0-0 on Monday. Both the U-16's and U-18's are now on a Winter break until February.

CHIVAS USA TO HOLD FINAL YOUTH TEAM AND OPEN TRYOUTS OF 2008: On Friday, Dec. 12, Chivas USA will host its final Youth Team Tryouts, as well as a round of Open Tryouts, at the Rancho Santa Susana Fields in Simi Valley. The Youth Team Tryouts are for the Chivas USA U-16 and U-18 Teams that participate in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, and are open to players born between 1991 and 1995. The Open Tryouts will be open to players aged 18 and over. Both events start at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, on Fields 2 & 3 at the Rancho Santa Susana Park, 5005 Los Angeles Ave., Simi Valley. The cost is 30 dollars for either tryout, and players can register online at the Youth Soccer section of cdchivasusa.com. SHAVAR THOMAS HELPS JAMAICA TO SEMIFINALS OF DIGICEL CARIBBEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS: Chivas USA defender Shavar Thomas has helped Jamaica to the semifinals of the Digicel Caribbean Championships in Jamaica. The team posted two wins and a draw in the group stage, with Thomas playing the full 90 minutes in the team's second match, a 4-0 win over Grenada. The spot in the semifinals also assures the Reggae Boyz of a spot in the 2009 Gold Cup. In the semifinals on Dec. 10, Jamaica will play an opponent to be determined by results from the other group in matches taking place today, and the championship will be played on Dec. 12. Thomas has made a total of 13 appearances with the senior Jamaican National Team and has been a part of Jamaica's squad for the Reggae Boyz' last five World Cup Qualifiers. The players will be part of an initial camp until Friday, after which the full squad for the Championships will be named.

FINAL 'KICK-IT' OF 2008 THIS SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13 AT KOREATOWN'S SEOUL INTERNATIONAL PARK: 'Kick-it at the Park L.A. with Chivas USA' finishes its year-long run in Los Angeles-area public parks this Saturday, Dec. 13, with a clinic at Seoul International Park, located in Koreatown at 3250 San Marino Street, Los Angeles, 90006. A series of four, 90-minute clinics kicks off at 9:00 a.m., followed by clinics at 10:45 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. Run in conjunction with the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, 'Kick-it' is a series of clinics that emphasize physical fitness, sports, and education for as many as 400 children at each of 40 locations throughout the year. A five-dollar fee gets participants 90 minutes of instruction, a voucher for a future Chivas USA game, a t-shirt, soccer ball, and Certificate of Completion.
