Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Monday, January 30, 2006) - Chivas USA will enter upon its 2006 preseason training camp this Wednesday in preparation to its second season in Major League Soccer. The Red-and-White team led by Bob Bradley will officially report to The Home Depot Center as of today and will begin physical and medical exams ahead of its first day of training. Chivas USA will make its debut in the 2006 MLS season on Sunday April 2, at The Home Depot Center when it takes on Real Salt Lake. COME OUT AND SUPPORT CHIVAS: Chivas USA cordially invites fans and members of the media to come out and support Chivas de Guadalajara in its second leg match against Chilean powerhouse Colo Colo, in a viewing party that will take place this Tuesday, January 31, at 6:00 p.m. PT, at the Super Antojitos Restaurant, located at 1702 N. Bristol Street, Santa Ana, CA 92706.
GUADALAJARA UPDATE: Chivas USA's sister club, Chivas Rayadas de Guadalajara, presented its commemorative jersey for its 100 years of franchise history at the Jalisco Stadium during its 2-2 tie against Pumas de la UNAM in week two of the 2006 Mexican Apertura. Chivas Guadalajara will face Atlante in week 3, but has rescheduled the game for February 22, due to its second leg qualifying match against Chilean powerhouse Colo Colo at the Jalisco Stadium, for a spot in South America's Copa Libertadores. Chivas USA defeated Colo Colo 3-1 in their first leg match, played in Santiago, Chile.
FAMILIAR FACES: Chivas USA are to begin its preseason training camp this week with its full roster including Mexican internationals Juan Francisco âPaco' Palencia, Ramón RamÃrez and Juan Pablo GarcÃa along with Francisco âPanchito' Mendoza and goalkeeper Sergio âMatute' GarcÃa who will be joined by Ezra Hendrickson, Arturo Torres, Antonio MartÃnez, Francisco Gómez, Orlando Pérez, Esteban Arias and Matt Taylor.
NEW FACES: Chivas USA's 2006 preseason will also include its new signings such as defender Brian Dunseth, who played last season with Real Salt Lake, ex-Chicago Fire midfielder Jesse Marsch and ex-MetroStars defender Jason Hernández, as well as the red-and-Whites 2006 SuperDraft picks, midfielders Sacha Kljestan and Jonathan Bornstein. Chivas USA's 2006 Supplemental Draft picks, Andrew Helm, Darren Spicer and Lawson Vaughn are also to report to The Home Depot Center for preseason training.
âSOMOS CHIVAS USA': Chivas USA's weekly television show âSomos Chivas USA' is heading into its fifth episode this Saturday, February 4. The show will be broadcast at 1:30 p.m. PT on Spanish-language station KAZA Azteca 54 along with anchorman Ramón Diaz. The weekly show will feature guest appearances, interviews and special reports on everything related to Chivas USA.
U.S. RUNS OVER NORWAY: Chivas USA goalkeeper Brad Guzan, continues training with the U.S. men's national team, who beat Norway 5-0 last Sunday at The Home Depot Center with goals by Taylor Twelman (3), Eddie Pope and Kris Klein. Guzan did not play but could have an opportunity to make his debut with Bruce Arenas squad next February 10, when the U.S. men's national team faces off against Japan at SBC Park in San Francisco.

CHIVAS FUTBOL ACADEMY: The Chivas USA Futbol Academy continues play this week in preparation for this weekend's slate of games in Baldwin Park, with sessions at The Home Depot Center's Field 5 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday. Chivas USA will soon be announcing the inauguration of a Chivas Futbol Academy in San Bernardino.
