Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013) - Chivas USA announced today the club will host the New Zealand Men's National Team on Saturday, Oct. 12, in a match set to kick off at 2 p.m. (PT) at StubHub Center's Track & Field Stadium. The game against the All Whites will be open to the media.
As national teams compete all around the world for a berth in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the All Whites arrived in the Los Angeles area on Monday to prepare for their upcoming FIFA game against the fourth-place team in CONCACAF.
Currently in the CONCACAF standings, Panama and Mexico are tied with eight points in that position, but New Zealand's final opponent will not be determined until the upcoming FIFA date takes place this week.
Despite being in last place in CONCACAF standings, Jamaica could mathematically still secure the fourth spot, but will be heavily dependent on Friday's Mexico-Panama outcome.
Once the fourth-place finalist is decided in CONCACAF, the All Whites will travel to either Mexico or Panama in the first leg, and then go back to New Zealand for the final match to decide on aggregate who advances to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil next June.
