Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
Carson, CA. (Thursday, July 28, 2011) - This Saturday, Chivas USA will hold its third camp of the HEART Soccer Camp series, a unique initiative that connects the game of soccer to children and youth with special needs and demonstrates that children and youth can overcome their physical limitations and enjoy soccer.
This weekend's clinic will be in support of Starlight Children's Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps seriously ill children and their families cope with their pain, fear and isolation through entertainment, education, and family activities. A team of specialized Chivas USA academy coaches will lead Starlight children and their siblings through a series of uniquely designed soccer drills and techniques. Among the participants will be children diagnosed with a number of serious illnesses including sickle-cell related diseases, leukemia, and cerebral palsy.
Chivas USA's HEART Soccer Camp series will continue through the month of September and will support youth facing a variety of illnesses and physical challenges including children with cancer and developmental disorders. To ensure that the needs of each special needs group is met, each camp will be coordinated with different activities and with the support of specialized staff from participating non-profit groups. Camps will take place at the Home Depot Center and feature appearances by the ChivaFighter, ChivaGirls, as well as special activities and prizes for both children and families.
