
Chivas USA to Face Chivas De Guadalajara Sept. 23rd

CARSON, Calif. (Friday, August 28, 2009) - Chivas USA of Major League Soccer and Soccer United Marketing (SUM) today announced that Club Deportivo Guadalajara S.A. de C.V., commonly known as Chivas, will face Chivas USA on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 8:00 p.m. PT at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, Calif. The âChivaClásico' is part of Guadalajara's 2009 U.S. tour, and will be the first time the two teams have ever faced off in the United States. SUM represents the brand, marketing and promotional aspects of CD Guadalajara in the United States.
Tickets for the Sept. 23 âChivaClásico' go on sale today at 10:00 a.m. PT, with advance prices starting at $20 for General Admission, $30 for Reserved, and $40 for Preferred. Ticket prices go up by $5 on the day of the game, so purchasing tickets in advance is encouraged. Chivas de Guadalajara is Mexico's most successful team, having won a record 11 Mexican First Division titles, and is also recognized as a top club in international competition. The team is followed by millions of fans worldwide, and its policy of fielding only Mexican players is a source of pride for all of its supporters. Chivas is coached by Francisco Ramirez and led by stalwart Ramon Morales, goalkeeper LuÃs Ernesto Michel, strikers Javier "Chicharito" Hernández and Omar Bravo, as well as the Mexican national defenders, Jonny Magallón and Aaron Galindo.
Chivas USA debuted in MLS during the 2005 season, and has achieved remarkable success in just four full seasons in the league. The team has qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs three consecutive years, and has also participated in the past two editions of SuperLiga and the 2008 CONCACAF Champions League. Led by current U.S. National Team members Jonathan Bornstein and Sacha Kljestan, as well as forwards Maykel Galindo and Eduardo Lillingston, the club also recently added U.S.-born midfielder Jesus Padilla on loan from Guadalajara. The Sept. 23 match will be Chivas USA's third match against Mexican opponents this year after facing Tigres UANL and San Luis during SuperLiga 2009.
