Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release

CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, September 11, 2013) - Chivas USA announced today that they have teamed up with St. Baldrick's Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research. In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September, Red-and-White players Eric Avila and Tristan Bowen, along with the ChivaFighter mascot, have volunteered as team captains and will serve as guest barbers in one of the foundation's signature head-shaving events to be held at Haven Gastropub +Brewery on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 12 p.m. (PT). With the goal of raising $10,000, more than 30 volunteers are expected to shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer and raise money to conquer childhood cancers.

At the event, local children will be honored and serve to represent the more than 175,000 children diagnosed with cancer each year. Julie Wolfson, M.D., pediatric oncologist at City of Hope and St. Baldrick's Scholar, will speak on the realities of pediatric cancer and the importance of funding research.

As part of the efforts of September, Chivas USA have created three teams to help raise funds, with midfielder Eric Avila, forward Tristan Bowen, and the ChivaFighter serving as captains for each respective team. Interested fans will be able to join or make their donation to their preferred team by visiting cdchivasusa.com/FightChildhoodCancer
