Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release

CARSON, Calif. (Friday, Feb. 14, 2014) - Chivas USA announced today that the club has signed their 2014 Major League Soccer SuperDraft Second-Round pick Thomas McNamara. The Clemson midfielder was selected with the No. 20 pick on Jan. 16 and has been with the Red-and-White since the team broke preseason camp. Per club and league policy, terms of the agreement will not be disclosed.

The Rojiblancos used their first pick in the draft on the 22-year-old New York native, who led the Tigers in scoring in 2013 with seven tallies. The attacking midfielder also recorded eight assists, earning the graduate student First-Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors. In December 2013, McNamara was named to the NSCAA All-South Region team.

McNamara, an ACC All-Tournament team honoree while leading the Tigers to an 11-7-3 record, took Clemson to the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. After beginning his collegiate career at Brown University, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Economics, he opted to finish his fifth year of eligibility at Clemson.

Since reporting to camp, the attacker has appeared in three scrimmages with the Goats and recorded his first score against USL PDL side Orange County Blues FC to lead Chivas to the 2-0 shutout.

The Red-and-White will now head out for their first road match of camp, as they travel to Las Vegas to face the Colorado Rapids in the ProSoccer Challenge on Sunday. The club will then travel to Tucson, Ariz. the following day as part of their two-week participation in the Desert Diamond Cup, which the Rojiblancos will kick off on Wednesday against host side FC Tucson. The Goats will also square off against the New England Revolution and Colorado once more during their cup run, and conclude their participation with a placement match.
