FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Leading up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, world superpowers Portugal and Mexico will meet in an international friendly at Gillette Stadium on Friday, June 6. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m.
The match will feature the teams' top squads, including Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, the most recent FIFA Ballon d'Or winner.
Other top Portuguese players include Manchester United midfielder Nani and Real Madrid defender Pepe.
Mexican call-ups for its recent World Cup qualifiers and friendlies include Javier Hernández, Oribe Peralta and Giovani dos Santos.
Tickets for this match start at $40 and will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, through Ticketmaster outlets and the Gillette Stadium box office by calling 1-877-GET-REVS.
Revolution season ticket holders and multi-game package holders will have access to a series of private pre-sales that will be announced during the next week.
"With both of these teams leaving directly for Brazil after this series of matches, we're very excited to be able to present this unique opportunity to fans of this region," Revolution president Brian Bilello said. "The chance to see two World Cup-bound squads - and some of the world's top players - means this will be a truly memorable event for everyone in attendance."
On June 6, the Gillette Stadium gates will open at 6:30 p.m., after parking lots will open at 4:30 p.m.
Portugal and Mexico have faced off twice, with a record of 1-0-1 in favor of "Selecção das Quinas." The last meeting between the two ended in a 2-1 victory for Portugal during the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
Portugal returns to Gillette Stadium for the second time in as many years, having suffered a 3-1 loss to Brazil in front of a crowd of 62,310 last September. The world's fourth-ranked team was drawn into Group G of the World Cup, where they will face Germany, Ghana and the United States.
The Mexican National Team last played in Foxborough in 2007 in a 3-2 loss to Brazil before a record crowd of 67,684 - the largest ever soccer crowd in the history of Gillette Stadium. Currently 21st in the FIFA world rankings, Mexico will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in Chicago on Tuesday, June 3, before traveling to the East Coast.
