CHIVAS USA RETURNS TO ACTION THIS SATURDAY AT THE COLORADO RAPIDS: After a nearly three-week layoff from game action, Chivas USA returns to MLS play this Saturday, Aug. 8, at 6:30 p.m. PT, at the Colorado Rapids. The Red-and-White's last match was on July 19 at the New England Revolution, and the team will be looking to end a four-match losing streak against the Rapids. Chivas USA is currently tied for fourth place in the Western Conference with an 8-6-3 record (W-L-T) and 27 points, but the Red-and-White have played at least two fewer games than every other team in the division, and trail the LA Galaxy by one point and Seattle Sounders FC by two. This Saturday's game will be broadcast live locally on FS West and W Radio 690 AM, with pregame coverage starting at 6:00 p.m. PT. Chivas USA then faces New York on the road on Aug. 15 before returning home for an Aug. 22 matchup against Toronto FC; for more information, or to purchase tickets, please call 1-877-CHIVAS-1 or visit cdchivasusa.com.

With the purchase of a ‘Stimulus Plan,' fans receive tickets to three of the top matches of the year, plus a ‘bonus' ticket to the final game of the regular season, Fan Appreciation Night against the Houston Dynamo on Oct. 25. JORGE FLORES, GERSON MAYÉN AND CESAR ZAMORA PLAY FOR U.S. U-20 NATIONAL TEAM: Three Chivas USA midfielders, Jorge Flores, Gerson Mayén, and Cesar Zamora, have just returned from a trip to Argentina with the United States Under-20 National Team, having helped the team to a 1-1-1 record in the Copa Ciudad de Rosario. The team won its first game against Argentine side Tiro Federal on July 27 by a 2-0 score, with Jorge Flores scoring both goals, and Mayén making a substitute appearance. The second match was against the Uruguay U-20's on July 29, and after a 0-0 tie, the match went to penalties, where Flores scored the deciding goal to earn the 5-4 win. The third and final game of the tournament was against Australia, where the U.S. scored first but then gave up three unanswered goals in a 3-1 loss. All three Chivas USA players started the final match. More information on the tournament and games, along with photos, can be found at Dentro del Rebaño, the official blog of Chivas USA, at dentrodelrebano.com.

INJURY UPDATE: THORNTON SUFFERS STRAINED RIGHT QUAD IN ALL-STAR GAME: Chivas USA goalkeeper Zach Thornton, enjoying one of his best seasons in his 13-year career, suffered a strained right quad in last week's All-Star game. Thornton entered the match at halftime, and was forced to leave in the 61st minute, with Seattle goalkeeper Kasey Keller returning to the match. Coming back to Los Angeles after the All-Star game, Thornton was evaluated late last week and could be out 2-3 weeks while recovering from the injury.

THORNTON, BORNSTEIN AND NAGAMURA EARN ALL-STAR NOMINATIONS: Chivas USA had three players named MLS All-Stars this season, for the game that took place last Wednesday against Everton FC, which the MLS team lost on penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie. Zach Thornton was one of two goalkeepers on the gameday roster, playing the beginning of the second half before being subbed out due to a right quad strain. It was Thornton's sixth All-Star game, and first since 2003. Also, both Jonathan Bornstein and Paulo Nagamura were named to the inactive roster for the match, so while neither played in the game, both are considered 2009 MLS All-Stars. It was Bornstein's third straight All-Star nomination, and the first of Paulo Nagamura's MLS career.

GUADALAJARA UPDATE: CHIVAS FALLS TO TIGRES IN HOME OPENER: Chivas de Guadalajara fell for the second straight game this past Saturday, losing its home opener of the Apertura 2009 season to Tigres by a 3-1 score.
