Chivas USA Falls To U. De Guadalajara In Final Preseason Scrimmage In Mexico

GUADALAJARA, Mexico (Tuesday, February 16, 2010) - Chivas USA fell by a 2-1 score to Mexican Liga de Ascenso (Mexican second division) team Universidad de Guadalajara on Tuesday in a match at the Multigol training fields in Guadalajara. Forward Justin Braun scored the only goal for the Red-and-White, while Joshua Boateng and Oscar Pelayo each scored for the local side.

Chivas USA will return to Los Angeles on Wednesday and will prepare for a week-long trip to Phoenix, Arizona, where the team will face the Kansas City Wizards and Columbus Crew in preseason scrimmages. The Red-and-White earned a 3-1 victory at Liga de Ascenso leaders Irapuato on Friday in the club's only other preseason match during its trip to Mexico.

In Tuesday's match, Boateng gave 'U. de G.' the lead with a header off a corner kick in the 33rd minute, but Braun struck back just before halftime, hitting a shot from a tough angle off a cross from Jorge Flores. Pelayo gave U. de G. the final lead with another header, this time in minute 55. Blair Gavin was given a second yellow card with seven minutes remaining, forcing Chivas USA to play a man down. Recent acquisition Osael Romero, who played the first 73 minutes of today's game, will return to El Salvador tomorrow ahead of his National Team's match against the United States in Florida on Feb. 24.
