CARSON, Calif. (Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013) - Chivas USA fell to the LA Galaxy, 5-0, in the third and final leg of the season's SuperClÃÆásico series. The Galaxy were led by a pair of two-goal performances by Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan. Gyasi Zardes also contributed in Sunday's contest with a goal.
The Rojiblancos generated a promising look at tallying the first score of the match in the fourth minute when forward Matthew Fondy, who was making his first career start for the Goats, worked the ball outside the box and squared up to get off a strike near the arc, but the attempt was deflected out of bounds.
The Galaxy went up a goal in the sixth minute when Zardes worked the ball on the left wing and sent a low cross through the box that found Donovan near the far post. Donovan played the ball back to a trailing Keane who placed it past Red-and-White goalkeeper Dan Kennedy's right.
LA would go on to extend their lead to 4-0 on a pair of scores from Donovan and Zardes' fourth goal of the season beginning in the 23rd minute. Donovan was able to get on the end of Zardes' cross from the left side of the box for the tap in. Three minutes later Zardes took possession of a deflected ball sent over by Keane inside the box and created space for himself to get off a shot and find the back of the net. Donovan would collect his brace with four minutes remaining in the first half with a chip-shot over Kennedy from the left wing.
The Rojiblancos made two substitutions in the second half but could not generate enough threats in their attacking third. Defender Carlos Bocanegra got into range in the 82nd minute and delivered a shot on goal that was secured by LA keeper Jaime Penedo.
Keane tallied the final score of the match in the final minute of regulation time by bringing down a pass over the top with his chest and firing inside the left post to close out the match with a final 5-0 result for the Galaxy.
Chivas USA will now have two weeks off from League competition and will return to face Real Salt Lake in their final road match of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Rio Tinto Stadium. The Western Conference game will mark the third and final meeting of the series and will be televised beginning at 6 p.m. (PT) in English on KDOC-TV and in Spanish on KWHY S̮̼per 22.
