CARSON, Calif. - (Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013) - Chivas USA fell 1-0 to in-state rival the San Jose Earthquakes Sunday night at the StubHub Center. The Quakes delivered the game's lone goal in the final minutes of regulation on Chris Wondolowski's shot from inside the box to put an end to the Red-and-White's three-game unbeaten streak at home.

The Rojiblancos had a pair of looks at goal by the 12-minute mark, beginning with Carlos Alvarez's long ball over the top from the right sideline to a streaking Erick Torres into the box, but San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch came off his line to intercept the entry. The Goats then looked to get into range when Bryan de la Fuente was threaded a pass down the left seam and got off a cross that was broken up by the away side's defense.

Chivas continued to knock on the goal's door in the 23rd minute off a free kick by Eric Avila that was sent in from deep near the right sideline, which Torres managed to get a header on frame that Busch was able to secure. Head Coach Jose Luis Real was forced to go to his bench in the 40th minute to replace Steven Purdy who was forced to leave the match after a collision in the Earthquakes' final third.

Locked in a scoreless match early in the second half, the Red-and-White looked to get into range, as Matthew Fondy got off a header near the short area a minute after he was brought on as a sub off a corner kick. The ball was played in from the right side and was on frame despite deflecting off a Quakes defender but did not have enough behind it to find the net. Three minutes later, De la Fuente created space for himself on the left wing and unleashed a strike that sailed wide right to keep the match tied a zero.

San Jose had a dangerous look at taking the initial lead in the 65th minute on Wondolowski's strike from the right side of the box that was denied by Red-and-White keeper Dan Kennedy at close range.

The Rojiblancos answered back with a pair of threats beginning in the 75th minute when substitute Tristan Bowen sent a cross from the right wing to Torres near the penalty spot. Torres' diving first-time attempt, however, traveled over the crossbar. Two minutes later, Fondy crossed the ball from inside the right side of the box to a cutting De la Fuente, but the play was broken up on top of the six-yard line. In the 86th minute, De la Fuente again got off a shot from the same spot on the left wing, pushing it just wide of the far post.

The Earthquakes pulled ahead in the 87th minute when Wondolowski followed up Alan Gordon's initial shot from behind the arc and placed the rebound into the back of the net to tally the eventual game-winner and lead San Jose to the 1-0 result.

Chivas USA will now begin preparations to square off against cross-hall and Western Conference rival the LA Galaxy in the third and final leg the SuperClásico. The match will kick off at 2 p.m. (PT) on Sunday, Oct. 6, at the SHC with the Rojiblancos serving as the visiting side. The match will be televised in English on KDOC-TV and in Spanish on UniMas. Game action can also be followed in Spanish on W Radio 690 AM. For more information visit cdchivasusa.com and follow us on Twitter @cdchivasusa and Facebook.com/chivasusa .
