The Chilliwack Bruins enter Wednesday's contest vs the Kelowna Rockets with a record of 5-5-1-1 after dropping three straight road games last week. Chilliwack was beaten in Lethbridge by a score of 3-1 Wednesday night before dropping a 3-0 decision Friday Medicine Hat and a 6-3 decision Saturday in Cranbrook.

he Kootenay Ice scored four times in the second period en route to a 6-3 win over the visiting Chilliwack Bruins Saturday night. It was the third straight loss for the Bruins who see their record fall to 5-5-1-1.

Defenceman John Negrin led the way offensively for the Ice with a goal and two assists. Ryan Howse scored once in each period for the Bruins to notch his first WHL hat trick.

Goaltender Nathan Lieuwen made 15 saves to earn the victory for the Ice. Mark Friesen, who was pulled in favor of Lucas Gore after allowing four goals on 25 shots took the loss in goal for Chilliwack.

The Ice outshot the Bruins 50-18.

Kootenay was 1/5 on the powerplay and added two shorthanded goals. Chilliwack was 0/4 with the man advantage.

The Bruins return to action Wednesday night when they host the Kelowna Rockets.

Not in the lineup for Chilliwack were injured players Jesse Craige, Matt Strong, Ryan Hankin, Randy McNaught and Liam Darragh...Ryan Howse's three goals tie the Bruins record for most goals in one game. Josh Aspenlind, Mark Santorelli and Oscar Moller (3 times) have also recorded hat tricks for Chilliwack...Evan Fuller returned to the lineup after missing two games with a groin strain.

Roster Notes: The Bruins currently have 24 players on their active roster including two goaltenders, eight defencemen and fifteen forwards. By age, Chilliwack has three 16 year olds (Sundher, Berg, Wentworth), six 17 year olds (Howse, Ramsay, Hankin, Bettauer, MacDonald, Exner), nine 18 year olds (Gore, Friesen, Strong, Einhorn, Robinson, McNaught, Darragh, Wiklund, Manning), three 19 year olds (Craige, Meropoulis, Potter), and three 20 year olds (Bhungal, Ward, Fuller).

Who's new: The Bruins return 13 players from their 2007/08 end of season active roster. New to the lineup this season are goaltender Lucas Gore (Vernon, BCHL), defencemen Jesse Craige (Lethbridge Hurricanes), Carter Berg (Saskatoon Midget AAA), James Bettauer (Penticton BCHL), Brett Ward (Moose Jaw Warriors) and forwards Kevin Sundher (Valley Hawks BC Midget), Ryan Hankin (Hope Ice Breakers PIJHL), Scott MacDonald (Nelson Leafs KIJHL), Tanner Exner (Regina Midget AAA), Blair Wentworth (Calgary Midget AAA), Evan Fuller (Prince George Cougars), and Alexander Wiklund (Sweden).

Who's Hot: Ryan Howse became the fourth Bruin to score three goals in a game Saturday night in Cranbrook. Howse scored once in each period in a 6-3 loss. Other Bruins to score three goals in one game: Mark Santorelli, Josh Aspenlind and Oscar Moller (3 times)

Slow Starts: The Bruins have been outscored 12-3 in the first period this season and have not led after 20 minutes of play in any of their first ten games.

Fight Card: The Bruins have earned 17 fighting majors through the first 12 games of the season. The Brandon Wheat Kings lead the league with 20 fighting majors. The Prince Albert Raiders have earned the fewest with four. Partik Bhungal leads the team with four fighting majors, one more than Liam Darragh, Scott Ramsay and Brandon Manning. Matt Strong, Matt Meropoulis, Blair Wentworth and Randy McNaught each have one fight to their credit this season. Bhungal sits atop the all time Bruins fighting leader board with 23.

Good Kill: The Bruins penalty killing ranks third in the league with a success rate of 88.4% (61/69). Chilliwack ranks ninth in penalty killing at home having killed 27/32 penalties at Prospera Centre (84.4%).

Milestones: Partik Bhungal became the ninth player to appear in 100 regular season games with the Bruins last weekend vs Seattle. Bhungal and Matt Meropoulis are the only two players on the current roster who appeared in the first Bruins game on September 21st, 2006...Scott Ramsay recorded his first WHL point Wednesday in Lethbridge with an assist on a goal by Randy McNaught...Matt Meropoulis has moved into fifth place on the career Bruins games played list when he appeared in his 123rd game Friday in Medicine Hat. Partik Bhungal currently ranks third on the Bruins career penalty minute leader board with 172 minutes. Bhungal trails second place Dylan Chapman by four minutes. Matt McCue leads with 182.
