Chill Battle to End in 4-1 Loss

Moline, Ill. - The Quad City Mallards scored a pair of goals in the third period to break open a 1-1 first period tie and added an empty netter in the final seconds to secure a 4-1 over the Chill Wednesday night.

Quad City (28-20-10) jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal from Justin Fox but the Chill defense, led by goalie Linus Lundin, shut the door the rest of the period and set up a goal late in the period. Mike Kavanagh fired a pass to Nicklas Lindberg who fed a streaking John Snowden through the slot and past the defense before he snapped off a shot to tie the game at 1-1 in the final three minutes of the opening period.

The start of the second period was back and forth with both goalies making outstanding saves to preserve the 1-1 tie and the Chill killed off a pair of power plays to keep the game tied despite being outshot 14-10 in the frame.

St. Charles (11-43-6) fell behind just over a minute into the third period on a goal from Matt Boyd but the Chill would continue to fight hard, a nod to them being named the second hardest working team in the Central Hockey League. The game was back and forth in the middle of the final period and featured a fight between the Chill's Charles Lachance and Quad City's Matt Duffy that seemed to spark the crowd. The Mallards fed off that energy to add to their lead on a goal from Mike Monfredo with less than five minutes remaining. St. Charles would fall by a final of 3-1 and will square off against the Mallards for the final time with a pair of games the final weekend of the regular season at the Family Arena.

The Chill continues its six-game road trip with three games over the weekend starting Friday at 7:05 against the Allen Americans.
