JACKSONVILLE - The ArenaBowl XXIV Champion Jacksonville Sharks announced Wednesday that wide receiver John Chiles has been activated from the Arena Football League's "Other League Exempt" list.

The 23-year-old Chiles (6'2", 215) was placed on the exempt list after signing with the National Football League's St. Louis Rams in late November. Chiles finished the season on the team's practice squad before being released on Monday. The former Texas Longhorn was orginially assigned to the Sharks' 2012 roster on October 5.

The upcoming season will be Chiles' first in the Arena Football League. At Texas, he totaled 65 receptions for 752 yards and four touchdowns in his four-year collegiate career. Chiles spent time at both quarterback and running back during his first two years with the Longhorns, producing two passing touchdowns and four rushing touchdowns.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Chiles spent time in training camp with the New Orleans Saints prior to the 2011 NFL season.

The Jacksonville Sharks are members of the Arena Football League (AFL).
