Talons Leaders Become First Honorary Commanders for 149th FW at Lackland Air Force Base

SAN ANTONIO (February 8, 2012) - On Saturday, February 11, leaders from the city's new professional football team, the San Antonio Talons will be initiated as Honorary Commanders for the 149th Fighter Wing at Lackland Air Force Base. Talons' owner and CEO Jason Lohe, and Senior Executive Vice President and COO Cree Crawford will become the first official Honorary Commanders for the 149FW. The ceremony, set to commence at 3:00 p.m., will take place at Lackland Air Force Base.

"The 149th Fighter Wing is honored to have the support of our local community and the opportunity to kick off our Honorary Commander Program in support of the inaugural season of the San Antonio Talons," says Col John F. Kane, 149th Fighter Wing Commander. "The Honorary Commander Program allows our community leaders the opportunity to work closely and share a public understanding of the roles and missions of the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard. The Honorary Commander ceremony is based on a time-honored tradition in the military, which visibly assures continuity of command. Saturday's event illustrates the San Antonio Talons assuming a role as true ambassadors of the 149th Fighter Wing and the Texas Air National Guard."

The joining of San Antonio's hometown Air Force with San Antonio's new hometown football team will be symbolically represented by Texas state flags being passed from 149th Fighter Wing commanders to their San Antonio Talons counterparts.

"San Antonio is a definitely a football city, but at the heart of this city is the military community who play such an important role in our country," says Lohe. "We are honored by this recognition and are humbled to be able to partner with the 149th Fighter Wing. We look forward to working with the entire San Antonio military community as we bring our professional football franchise to the city."

The San Antonio Talons will kick off their inaugural season with a home opener against the Utah Blaze at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 10 at the Alamodome. The Talons will also host a special Military Appreciation Day for a home game on May 19, honoring the servicemen and women who give so much to our community and our country.
