San Antonio Talons News Release
Representatives from around the San Antonio community have rallied to show their support for the Talons as the franchise is in the midst of an ownership transition. The Arena Football League Office is now leading the day-to-day operation of the team and will continue doing so with the goal of locating a new owner. AFL staff has been in the Alamo City this week meeting both with the Talonsand City of San Antonio officials to set a plan of action for the franchise.
"They want to continue to play in San Antonio," said Michael Sawaya, the city of San Antonio's convention, sports and entertainment facilities director. "We're going to be negotiating a lease with them (the AFL) for this season."
The Talons enter their third season in San Antonio after making the move from Tulsa, OK. They have posted a 24-12 overall record in that time while going 12-6 at the Alamodome.
"The Talons have experienced great success on the field since they began calling San Antonio home," Arena Football League Commissioner Jerry B. Kurz said. "That success is part of the reason we've already had so much interest from groups hoping to purchase this outstanding franchise."
The 2014 schedule was announced last month and the team will open training camp on February, 20 under the leadership of third-year Head Coach Lee Johnson. The home opener will be played on Saturday, March 15 against the Los Angeles KISS.
The San Antonio Talons are entering their third season in the Arena Football League (AFL). The team won the AFL's Central Division title, as well as hosted their first AFL playoff game in the 2012 season. For more information or to ask about season tickets please call 210.227.TEAM.
