San Antonio Talons News Release

SAN ANTONIO (August 5, 2014) - An online petition effort begun by the Black-N-Blue Crew has now reached 2,000 signatures and the number continues to grow daily. The petition was established as a way for San Antonio sports fans to show community leaders and potential ownership that support exists for professional football in the Alamo City. The effort has drawn support from the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as well as numerous community leaders and elected officials.

"The effort has been amazing," said Keith Recine, Executive Vice President of the Talons. "Our fans have really showed a great deal of persistence in making this effort successful and we are grateful as an organization that they have been so loyal." Recine believes that Arena Football can be successful in San Antonio and says that the success of the petition proves that the fan support is real. "San Antonio has some of the best fans in the AFL and this effort illustrates that. There is a real hunger for professional football in San Antonio and it would be a real shame if no one stepped up and took over the operation of the franchise." However, Recine said that an August 23rd deadline exists for that to happen. That is the date of the Arena Bowl, the AFL's championship game.

The petition effort has been underway for two and a half weeks and it has gained support among fans and community leaders. Popular radio show host Joe Pags tweeted out the link to the petition this week and it has been shared by both chambers of commerce on their Facebook pages. San Antonio City Councilman Ron Nierenberg posted a message on his personal Facebook page last week that said, "Pro football in San Antonio? It's already here - The San Antonio Talons." According to Recine the support from civic leaders is growing. We have had numerous inquiries by elected officials and we have a meeting coming up with Bexar County officials in the next ten days to see what they might be able to do to help keep the Talons in San Antonio." Recine also said that media coverage of the petition effort has helped drive fans to sign. "Appearing in the San Antonio Business Journal, the Express News and on Channel 4 has really helped drive people to the petition link. I am hopeful that we will get a positive resolution to our current situation."

The San Antonio Talons are completing their third season in the Arena Football League (AFL). The team won the AFL's Central Division title, as well as hosted their first AFL playoff game in the 2012 season. For more information or to ask about season tickets please call 210.227.TEAM
