Chihuahuas Sweep Bees in Twinbill Apr 30th 2017, 23:46

The Salt Lake Bees lost both games of a doubleheader against the El Paso Chihuahuas Sunday afternoon at Smith's Ballpark, falling 3-0 in the first game and 12-3 in game two.

Game one was a pitcher's duel, as the Bees managed only three singles against the Chihuahuas. Three El Paso hurlers ended several Salt Lake streaks, as the Bees were held under ten hits for the first time in 12 games and Shane Robinson (17 games), Eric Young, Jr. (14 games) and Matt Williams (12 games) had on-base streaks snapped. Salt Lake starting pitcher Alex Blackford matched a season-high with six strikeouts and suffered the hard-luck loss, while Justin Kelly made his Triple-A debut in relief and allowed only one run over two innings.

El Paso got off to a quick start in game two, scoring four first inning runs against Bees starter Vicente Campos . Drew Gagnon relieved Campos and threw three hitless innings to keep Salt Lake within striking distance. Kaleb Cowart drilled his third homer of the year in the fifth inning to cut the Chihuahua lead to 6-3, but the Bees would not get any closer as El Paso put the game out of reach with six runs in the seventh inning.

Salt Lake and El Paso conclude their five-game series Monday night at Smith's Ballpark. For tickets and more information, visit slbees.com.
