Chiefs Trade for Rights to Schulz and Taylor

Johnstown, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that they have acquired the rights to defeneman David Schulz and center Max Taylor from the Ontario Reign in exchange for defenseman Andrew Martens.

Schulz, 22, appeared in 49 games with the Texas Wildcatters last season, registering eight goals, 12 assists and 36 penalty minutes, good for fourth in scoring among Wildcatters' defensemen. Schulz also skated in one game for the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League (AHL).

A native of Winkler, Manitoba, Schulz appeared in a combined 304 Western Hockey League (WHL) games with Swift Current, Saskatoon, Spokane and Kelowna before turning pro, racking up 23 goals, 73 assists and 437 penalty minutes.

Taylor, 24, appeared in 59 games for Texas last season, notching 25 goals, 20 assists and 51 penalty minutes. He also skated in 13 games for the AHL's Toronto Marlies last year, picking up 2 goals, 3 assists and 28 penalty minutes.

A native of Ottawa, Ontario, Taylor spent four seasons at St. Lawrence University (ECAC) before turning pro, appearing in 145 games, collecting 29 goals, 50 assists and 84 penalty minutes.
