
Chiefs Swept in Doubleheader by IronPigs

Allentown, PA - The Syracuse Chiefs dropped both games of a doubleheader against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, falling 8-5 in game one and 4-2 in game two Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Park. Syracuse took the lead first in both games but the IronPigs scored seven runs in the second inning of game one, and Darnell Sweeney hit a two run double in the fifth inning of game two for the lead. Jason Martinson homered in game one for the Chiefs.
Syracuse (47-56) grabbed the lead in game one in the opening inning. Caleb Ramsey and Christopher Bostick each singled against Jake Thompson. Two batters later, Martinson drilled a three-run home run to center field to give the Chiefs a 3-0 lead.
Lehigh Valley (63-41) answered right back in the bottom of the second against Taylor Hill. Brock Stassi and Cedric Hunter hit back-to-back home runs to start the inning to bring the IronPigs within one. David Lough then reached on an error on Bostick at second base. Logan Moore and Jesmuel Valentin followed with walks to load the bases. Emmanuel Burriss then singled home Lough and Moore to give the IronPigs a 4-3 lead. After a walk, Nick Williams cleared the bases with a three-run double to extend the lead to 7-3.
The Chiefs got a run back in the third as Brian Goodwin's groundout brought home Bostick, who had tripled.
In the fifth, Steve Lombardozzi hit a pinch-hit double with one out. Ramsey then singled and after a fly out, Goodwin picked up his second RBI of the game on a single to plate Lombardozzi to cut the lead to 7-5.
The IronPigs added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth. Hunter hit his second home run of the game against Erik Davis to stretch the lead to 8-5.
In game two, the Chiefs again took the lead first in the opening frame of the game. Bostick led off the game with a double, followed by a bunt single by Lombardozzi. Goodwin followed with a sacrifice fly to score Bostick for a 1-0 Chiefs lead.
The IronPigs once again answered with a home run to start the second. Darin Ruf homered off Aaron Laffey to tie the score at one.
Syracuse took the lead back in the third after loading the bases when Bostick walked with one out, Lombardozzi singled and Skole walked with two outs. Morgan then hit Martinson with a pitch to bring home Bostick and give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead.
The score remained 2-1 until the fifth. Laffey hit Cam Perkins with a pitch with one out and two batters later, Hunter hit a pinch-hit single. Syracuse then turned to Koda Glover out of the bullpen, who allowed a two-run double to Darnell Sweeney to give the IronPigs a 3-2 lead. The IronPigs added a run in the sixth on Andrew Knapp's RBI single for a 4-2 advantage.
The Chiefs and IronPigs will wrap up their three-game series Wednesday morning at 11:35 a.m. Austin Voth is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite Ben Lively for the IronPigs.
