Spokane Chiefs News Release

The Spokane Chiefs have announced a restructuring in their scouting department with the hiring of Chris Moulton as the Director of Scouting/Director of Player Personnel and the naming of Ray Dudra as Director of Player Development.

"Chris was the first scout that I wanted to talk with regarding our head position and I am elated he is willing to take this step with our organization," Chiefs General Manager Tim Speltz said. "His experience as a WHL scout will give him the foundation necessary to lead our scouting staff."

Moulton was the full-time Second Scout with the Calgary Hitmen since 2002 and had been with their organization since 1994. The Fernie, BC native was involved in all capacities with the Hitmen, including scouting, drafting and recruiting. Moulton will scout all levels of hockey in Western Canada in preparation for each year's Bantam Draft, as well as oversee the Spokane Chiefs list players and scouting staff. Chris will work closely with Chiefs General Manager Tim Speltz and the Chiefs coaching staff and will be involved with roster transactions.

"This is an opportunity I couldn't pass up," Moulton said. "I have always had a lot of respect for Tim Speltz and the Spokane Chiefs. There are people out there that you can always learn from and I think that Tim is one of those guys."

"I think that the Chiefs are at a stage where they want to turn the corner and this new opportunity is one that I'm excited to have. I'm looking forward to working with Bill Peters and the rest of the staff," Moulton said.

Dudra has been the Spokane Chiefs Director of Player Personnel/Head Scout since the 1990-91 season, the year Spokane won the Memorial Cup. Dudra's role will include monitoring and keeping a relationship with the Chiefs list players, as well as scouting the Western Hockey League and the provincial bantam camps in preparation for the WHL Bantam Draft. Dudra will also be involved with roster transactions.

"Ray decided he would like to do less with regard to scouting bantam players, but wants to stay involved with our organization," Speltz said. "We are comfortable with Ray in every regard and I know he will do a great job in his new capacity."

"I want to stay involved and this restructure enables me to do so," Dudra said. "It has always been a year-to-year thing with Tim and me, and at the end of this season I thought that it would be good for the organization to hire a new head guy with new ideas and a different viewpoint. I'm excited about this."

"It was an honor to be one of the original staff members of the Hitmen organization and I learned a tremendous amount from them and became a better hockey person because of it. I will use those attributes with the Chiefs," Moulton finished. Moulton and his family will reside in British Columbia.

The Spokane Chiefs have also announced the resignation of scout Hugh Brown.
