Spokane Chiefs News Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs hold and are expected to utilize the 42nd overall selection in Wednesday's Canadian Hockey League Import Draft. The draft, which includes all teams from the CHL (WHL, OHL, and QJMHL) is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. EST.

Each CHL team, including the Chiefs, is allowed a maximum of two non-North American players on their roster each season. These players must be drafted in the CHL Import Draft held each summer to be eligible to play.

Teams are permitted to select in the Import Draft if they have less than two import players on their current roster. In anticipation of Wednesday's draft, the Chiefs have dropped Slovakian forward Adam Hascic. In 40 games for the Chiefs during the 2013-14 season, Hascic scored one goal and added four assists.

The Chiefs awarded their franchise Rookie of the Year award for the 2013-14 season to Dominic Zwerger, an Austrian forward selected with the 106th pick in the 2013 CHL Import Draft. Zwerger scored 16 goals and 10 assists in 51 games played during his rookie campaign. He is expected to return for the 2014-15 season as an 18-year-old.

Other notable import players in Spokane Chiefs franchise history include: Maxim Bets (1992), Dmitri Leonov (93), Marian Cesar (95), Daniel Bohac (98), Roman Tvrdon (99), Michael Grabner (2004), Ondrej Roman (06), Stefan Ulmer (07), Dominic Uher (09) and Marek Kalus (10). Valeri Bure, who holds the franchise record for goals scored in a single season (68), joined Spokane as a list player for the 1991-92 season, a year before the institution of the CHL Import Draft.

The Spokane Chiefs' Bud Light Opening Night at Spokane Arena is Saturday, September 27. Ticket packages for the 2014-15 regular season are on sale now and begin as low as $96. Stop by the Chiefs' Ticket Office or call a Chiefs Ticket Account Executive at (509) 535-PUCK for more information.
