Chiefs on Wrong End of a 1-0 Pitchers' Duel

Peoria Chiefs News Release
South Bend, IN - In a game that featured just nine combined hits, the South Bend Cubs squeaked past the Peoria Chiefs 1-0 Wednesday.
South Bend starter Daniel Palencia and Peoria starter Zane Mills entered action with an identical 4.78 ERA in their High-A starts this season. However, both guys dominated at times in Wednesday's face-off.
Palenica allowed a runner into scoring position in the second, third and fourth innings Wednesday but the right-hander never allowed a Chiefs runner to advance past second base. In the fifth, Palencia punched out a pair of Peoria batters to end his night. The 22-year-old recorded seven strikeouts to tie a career high.
After two scoreless innings from Mills, South Bend scratched the only run of the night in the bottom half of the third. With a runner at second and two outs, Yohendrick Pinango doubled to right center to score Fabian Pertuz. Pinango now has five hits in the series.
Following the third inning ambush, Mills was in control. The former fourth-round draft pick retired the final 13 batters he faced as he became the first Chiefs starter to complete seven innings this season. Mills allowed just four hits in the contest, but was tagged with the tough luck loss.
Nathanael Heredia pitched a scoreless eighth to give the Chiefs a chance in the ninth but the offense went down in order against Zac Leigh.
Tyler Reichenborn, who reached base twice, extended his on-base streak to 17 games in the defeat. Mike Antico, who went 0-for-4 Wednesday, had his hit streak snapped at 13 games.
The series continues Thursday from Four Winds Field in South Bend. Wilfredo Pereira will make his fifth start of the year for the Chiefs. First pitch is set for 7:05 EST/6:05 CST.
