Chico Outlaws News Release
The first place Chico Outlaws took the opener of a two-game series 8-3 at Goodwin Field over the Orange County Flyers.
Phil Springman twirled seven quality innings and earned his second victory for the Chico Outlaws (21-8).
The Outlaws have won five straight games over the Flyers, who dropped to .500 (15-15), for the season.
Robert Salini gave the Flyers 6.2 innings, but he gave up eight runs and was handed the loss.
C Jon Marshall made his 2007 debut with the Flyers and doubled in his first at-bat.
Chico's offense was highlighted by a four-run 3rd inning. Jason Van Meetren hit a three-run homerun and Jake Ferris followed with a solo blast.
Steve Boggs, the leadoff man for Chico, had three hits and scored twice.
Alex McRobbie and the Flyers will go for the split on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. at Goodwin Field. All the action can be caught on orangecountyflyers.com.
