First Time for Everything: Awadalla Morad made his very first appearance of the season with the Storm on Friday, November 26 at the UIC Pavilion in an 8-7 victory over division rival Milwaukee Wave. The 26-year-old forward helped the "Yellow and Black" take an early 2-1 lead in the first quarter after he placed a perfect pass to midfielder Andy Rosenbad who was streaking down the middle of the box and slipped a header right past Milwaukee's goalkeeper Nick Vorberg. This was very first assist of the season for Morad, as well as the very first goal of the season for Rosenband. Morad then proceeded to tally his first goal of the season at 8:17 of the second quarter, after he gathered a long pass from Gaston Pernia, dribbled down the field and blasted a shot at the top of the arch that found the back of the net after deflecting off the left post. Storm forward Matthew Stewart also picked up his first assist of the season early on in the third quarter when connected with forward Byron Alvarez, putting the Storm up 5-3. This was also the first ever home game televised on Comcast SportsNet in Storm history.
Undefeated on T.V.: So far this season, the Storm has an undefeated record of 3-0 when Comcast SportsNet has broadcast their games. The Storm's first ever victory on television came in the form of a 9-8 overtime thriller against the Milwaukee Wave at the U.S. Cellular Arena on October 29. On November 14, the "Yellow and Black" picked up their next victory on Comcast SportsNet when they went on the road again and defeated the Philadelphia KiXX by a final score of 7-4. The most recent win came on Friday, November 26 when the Storm faced off against the Wave for the third time this season. This was the very first televised home game, which proved to be another exciting game with the Storm coming out on top by a final of 8-7. The Storm's next game on Comcast SportsNet will take place on Saturday, December 11 when the two-time defending champion Baltimore Blast visits the UIC Pavilion for the first time this year to take on the Storm at 7:00 p.m. CT.
Snapping Streaks: In Friday night's game against Milwaukee, Storm forward Matthew Stewart was riding a four game scoring streak and looked to extend it to five games at home against his former team. Unfortunately, Stewart went down early in the fourth quarter and had to leave the game with a sprained left knee. He was unable to score up until that point and did not finish out the game. Storm forward Byron Alvarez still holds the team's longest scoring streak at five games. One streak that the Storm did not mind snapping was the Wave's winning streak. Coming into Friday night's contest, the Wave had put together four straight wins, helping them to stay on top of the Central Division with a one game lead over the Storm. However, the "Yellow and Black" defeated the Wave by a final of 8-7 Friday night in a hard fought battle and took over first place. So far this season, Milwaukee's only two losses have come at the hands of the Storm who now leads the I-94 rivalry series 2-1. Unfortunately, the Storm fell out of first place Sunday night when the team had their three game winning streak broken by the St. Louis Steamers in an 8-7 loss at the Savvis Center.
Coming back to the U.S: Storm midfielder Andy Guastaferro and the U.S. Futsal National Team Storm midfielder Andy Guastaferro and the U.S. Futsal National Team was eliminated from the FIFA Futsal World Championship Chinese Taipei 2004 with a 3-1 loss to Ukraine on Sunday night at the National Taiwan University New Gymnasium. After advancing to the second stage for the first time since 1992, the U.S. has zero points in Group F. Brazil leads the group with six points after a 2-1 win over Argentina, while Ukraine and Argentina are at three points each and will do battle on the final match day for the second semifinal spot from the group. The U.S. closes out group play on Wednesday vs. Brazil. Guastaferro did his part to help the U.S. Team advance to the Final Eight of the FIFA Futsal World Championship by scoring the team's only goal in the 14th minute of play during their match with Japan that ended in a 1-1 draw.
