GOALKEEPER OF THE MONTH

Danny Waltman, Chicago Storm

Waltman was the goalkeeper behind Chicago's 4-2 month of November, which allowed the MISL Expansion club to climb into the thick of the MISL Central Division race. The 23-year-old did not resemble a typical professional indoor soccer rookie in completing his first full month in the MISL, as he posted a 4-2 record, a 5.17 goals-against average, and a .710 save percentage. During November Waltman, led the Storm to home wins over Cleveland and Milwaukee as well as victories on the road against previously-undefeated Philadelphia and the two-time defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast. For the season the native of Gig Harbor, Wash., is 5-2 with a .709 save percentage and a 5.89 g.a.a., in starting seven of eight games for Chicago. The University of Washington graduate played one season with the Seattle Sounders in the A-League before joining the Storm. Waltman was named the MISL Goalkeeper of the Week on Nov. 15.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Nate Houser, St. Louis Steamers

Houser's insertion into St. Louis' line-up on Nov. 5 also marked the beginning of the Steamers' recent hot streak that has allowed the club to climb into the lead in the MISL Central Division. In games in which the 12-year professional indoor veteran has played, St. Louis is 6-1. In games in which Houser has scored, the Steamers are 4-0. In seven games in November, the 32-year-old defender/midfielder has one goal, three assists, and nine blocks. Houser, who has taken on more of a defensive role with the Steamers, played his first 11 seasons with Kansas City. In facing his former team for the first time on Nov. 27, Houser assisted on Cal Thomas' game-winning goal, which came with eight seconds left in regulation and gave the Steamers a 7-6 victory over the Comets at Kemper Arena. A native of San Diego, Calif., Houser has played in 373 games, scored 189 goals, and added 111 assists and 327 blocks. On Monday (Nov. 29), he was named the MISL's Defensive Player of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Daryl Doran, St. Louis Steamers

Doran led the Steamers to a 6-1 record during the month of November as St. Louis' head coach and leading scorer. The 41-year-old forward, who has played in 797 professional indoor games, led all MISL scorers with 15 points during November, scoring seven goals and adding eight assists. The native of St. Louis, Mo., has been credited with at least one point in each of the Steamers' eight games this season, and capped off his sterling November with a one-goal, four-assist performance in an 8-7 victory over the Chicago Storm at St. Louis' Savvis Center on Nov. 28. With his 17 points this season, Doran is the early leader in the race for the 2004-05 Spalding Scoring Championship. He began his professional career in St. Louis in 1982 and has served as a player-coach since 1994. Doran is a 13-time All-Star and a veteran of 22 professional indoor seasons.
