Chicago Sky Playoff Run Update
September 11, 2009 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Chicago Sky News Release
The Chicago Sky continue to fight for their first-ever playoff appearance in the short history of the franchise, as the Eastern Conference finds itself with five teams battling for three playoff spots.
With the Sky victory over Indiana on Thursday night, the Sky are currently in 4th place with a franchise best record of 16 -17. The Indiana Fever is the only Eastern Conference team currently with a secured playoff spot with a 22 -11 record. The Sky will face the defending WNBA champion Detroit Shock on Saturday September 12 at 7:00 p.m. at UIC Pavilion.
There are several possible scenarios which could result in a playoff spot for the Sky. But even with a win against Detroit tomorrow, the Sky will still need help to make the playoffs. A Sky win will tie the team record with Detroit at 17-17, and with a 1-3 head-to-head record the Shock will have the edge. The Sky after beating Detroit will need a Washington loss or two Atlanta losses to make it into the playoffs.
However, if the Sky loses on Saturday night, the team can still make the playoffs with two Washington losses and at least one Connecticut loss.
There is also a possible scenario which creates a five-way 17-17 tie between Atlanta, Chicago, Connecticut, Detroit and Washington. If this is the case the tiebreaker will be decides first on the teams' records against all of the five teams. As of today this is where the head-to-head stats stand between the five teams.
