Chicago Rush Go Back to Their Roots with New Mascot

May 29, 2012 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Chicago Rush News Release

CHICAGO (May 29, 2012) - June 3rd marks a historic day for the Chicago Rush organization as they are prepared to present a new mascot,"Bruiser the Bulldog," to their loyal fans in a pre-game ceremony prior to the 3:00 p.m. kickoff against the Spokane Shock. Bruiser is no stranger to Chicago as he has roots that originate all the way back to the Chicago Bruisers, who were a charter member of the Arena Football League. Playing in the four-team "demonstration season" that began in 1987, the AFL purchased the rights to the Bruisers name and history after the team disbanded in 1989. Twelve years later, the team was reintroduced as your Chicago Rush.

"Our aim is to create a secondary kid-friendly mascot who can be out in the community and help be a face of the organization," said President and General Manager Roger Wexelberg. "We're extremely excited to show Bruiser off to our fans."

To celebrate Bruiser's introduction, the first 1,000 kids under the age of 14 will receive mini bulldogs at this Sunday's game, compliments of Pepsi. The Chicago Rush look forward to unveiling their new mascot and sharing this moment with all of their fans.

In addition to the mascot festivities, the Rush will be holding their second fellowship night of the 2012 season. Select Rush players will be speaking about the role that faith plays in their lives. Churches, campus ministries, youth groups, and other faith-based organizations are all invited to the event. You can register your group by calling the Rush front office at 855-787-4946.
