TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Storm is pleased to announce that defensive lineman Pernell Phillips was named the Riddell Defensive Player of the Week by the Arena Football League for Week 12.

"It is always nice when one of your players get recognized for their hard work," said head coach Dave Ewart. "Pernell works extremely hard in practice and during the games. He never gives up on a play and that hard work is paying off for him right now."

Phillips (6-1, 290, Central State) recorded four tackles including three for loss in Tampa Bay's 63-55 victory over the Milwaukee Mustangs in Week 12. He notched a sack and two pass breakups to go along with collecting a safety to score the first points of the game.

He has appeared in and started nine games and leads the team with six sacks and eight tackles for a loss. Phillips is currently tied for eighth in the AFL for sacks.
