
Kauleinamoku, Phillips and Whittaker Earn Week 12 Honors

KAULEINAMOKU, PHILLIPS AND WHITTAKER EARN WEEK 12 HONORS Morgan and Roe also awarded for weekend's highlights
CHICAGO - Utah WR SHAUN KAULEINAMOKU has been awarded the Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week and AFL Playmaker of the Week awards, while Tampa Bay DL PERNELL PHILLIPS has been named the Riddell Defensive Player of the Week and San Jose WR HUEY WHITTAKER has been named JLS Ironman of the Week for Week 12 of the 2012 AFL season. In addition to these awards, the AFL is also awarding the Cutters Catch of the Week and Spalding Highlight of the Week. The Cutters Catch of the Week award winner for Week 12 is Philadelphia WR DONOVAN MORGAN, while the Spalding Highlight of the Week award winner is San Jose WR JAMES ROE.
RUSSELL ATHLETIC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kauleinamoku (5-9, 184, Western Oregon) caught nine passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns in Week 12. It was the fourth straight game he recorded a touchdown reception. He also set a single-game franchise record with 363 all-purpose yards in the game. This is the second time in three weeks he has won the award.
RIDDELL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Phillips (6-1, 290, Central State) recorded four tackles including three for loss in Tampa Bay's 63-55 victory over the Milwaukee Mustangs in Week 12. He notched a sack and two pass breakups to go along with collecting a safety to score the first points of the game.
JLS IRONMAN OF THE WEEK
Whittaker (6-5, 215, South Florida) played Jack linebacker and receiver for the SaberCats in the team's 84-77 overtime victory over the Chicago Rush in Week 12. Whittaker caught five balls for 91 yards and three touchdowns on offense, but led the team in tackles with nine on defense. He also deflected two passes in the game. Whittaker will receive a timepiece crafted by JLS for his efforts.
CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK
Morgan (6-3, 225, Pearl River CC) made two highlight-reel catches in the team's 55-33 victory over the Cleveland Gladiators. In his first game back from injury, Morgan went over the wall for a tough catch and made an equally impressive one-handed grab in the end zone for a touchdown. Morgan will receive a Cutters hat and shirt for his efforts.
AFL PLAYMAKER OF THE WEEK
Kauleinamoku was also awarded the AFL Playmaker of the Week honor, as he starred as both a receiver and kick returner in Week 12. Kauleinamoku set a single-game franchise record with 204 kick return yards in Week 12, to go along with his 159 receiving yards in the team's three-point loss to San Antonio.
SPALDING HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
Roe (6-1, 210, Norfolk State) made history in Week 12, passing former teammate and AFL Hall of Famer Barry Wagner for fourth place all-time on the AFL's list of career touchdown receptions leaders. Roe hauled in his 20th touchdown pass of the season and the 267th of his career in the team's overtime win over Chicago.
Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Maurice Purify, Chicago's Reggie Gray, Kansas City's Jackie Chambers, Philadelphia's Tiger Jones and Tampa Bay's Amarri Jackson.
Riddell Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Chicago's Brandon Brinkley, Iowa's Jason Simpson, Kansas City's Bradly Chavez, New Orleans' Jorrick Calvin, Philadelphia's Bryan Robinson and San Antonio's Fred Shaw.
JLS Ironman of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Kerry Reed, Georgia's CJ Johnson, Iowa's Collin Taylor, Milwaukee's Ryan McFoy and Philadelphia's Jeff Hughley.
The Arena Football League is also awarding the National Guard MVP of the Week, where fans are given the opportunity to select the winner. Candidates include Arizona QB Nick Davila, Chicago QB Russ Michna and Kansas City QB Matt Gutierrez. Fans will have 24 hours to vote beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30. The winner will be announced on Thursday, May 31.
