Chicago Stars FC News Release
Chicago, Ill. - The Chicago Red Stars will honor recently retired defender Michelle Lomnicki before the Red Stars take on the Portland Thorns on June 12 at Toyota Park.
The Aurora, Colorado native originally joined the Red Stars in 2009 during Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) and then again for the 2012 Women's Premier Soccer League Elite (WPSL-E) campaign, following 2011 stints with Germany's SC Freiburg and another WPS outfit, Sky Blue FC. The longest-tenured player in Red Stars history, playing professionally with Chicago for seven seasons, the defender scored three goals and added two assists in 48 appearances for Chicago.
"Michelle represented this club with class and grace for so many years both on and off the field," said Red Stars General Manager Alyse LaHue "It means a lot to us to have this opportunity to honor her and give her fans a chance to give her a proper sendoff after her dedication to the Red Stars."
After announcing her retirement from professional soccer on March 1, 2016, Lomnicki wrote a letter to the fans that can be viewed here.
Tickets to the June 12 match presented by Athletico honoring Lomnicki's retirement are available here or by calling the Red Stars sales office at 773-697-8699. The Red Stars will also be recognizing Women in Business on this night.
